September 14th 2012 - Samyang Optics introduce a prototype version of the Samyang 10mm f/2.8 ED AS UMC CS lens. The lens will be on show at Photokina 2012, held in Cologne.
The Samyang 10mm f/2.8 ED AS UMC CS is an ultra wide-angle prime lens designed for use with cameras that have APS-C / DX sensors. Its extremely short focal length and rectilinear imaging system ensure a wide angle of view, amounting to 110 degrees (~107 degree for Canon version). As a result the lens is a comprehensive tool for architecture and landscape photography. The Samyang 10mm f/2.8 ED AS UMC CS gives an equivalent focal length of 15mm (or 16mm in the case of Canon EOS) in 35mm terms.
All details concerning the optical construction and available mounts will be published at a later date. The lens will be available at the end of 2012.
Samyang Optics is to release a new lens with perspective control function - the Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC. The official product presentation will take place on September 18th, during Photokina 2012 which is held in Cologne.
The Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC is a wide-angle, full-frame lens fitted with the perspective control and tilt-shift functions. Its unique optical and mechanical construction makes it an ideal tool for architecture and landscape photography. The product will also be extremely useful when convergence of lines in the frame is required. Owing to the mechanism of optical axis tilt, focus depth operation brings utterly new quality and possibilities, enabling photographers to shape the image according to their individual needs, both on digital and analogue carriers.
Optical design of the Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC comprises sixteen lenses arranged in eleven groups, including two aspherical lenses and two Extra Dispersion (ED) lenses. These elements enable the lens to perfectly reproduce detailed elements and provide superior optical performance even with the T-S function on. Furthermore, each optical component has been covered with multi-layered, anti-reflective UMC coatings, which provide great light transmission, high contrast and natural colours. With sophisticated optics and developed T-S function, the Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC is currently the most advanced lens produced by Samyang Optics.
Tilt-Shift function in the Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC allows for smooth and fine adjustment of the focal plane by an angle of +/-8.5 and enables parallel shift of the optical axis by +/-12 mm. To make Tilt-Shift function even more seamless, both the lens mount and the Tilt-Shift section may be rotated on the optical axis. The Tilt-Shift section may be rotated left by 90 degrees (with 30 degree adjustment), while mount of the lens may be rotated both in left and right direction by 90 degrees (with 30 degree adjustment).
Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC will be available later this year in the following mounts; Canon EF, Nikon F, Pentax and Sony A. Pricing is to be announced.
August 9th 2012 - Samyang Optics announce three new additions to the popular Samyang family, all of which are dedicated for cine purposes.
These lenses are based on the existing types dedicated for digital photography. The new VDSLR lenses differ with the inclusion of follow-focus gearing on focus and decoupled aperture. Such alterations allow the user to smoothly and quietly change focus and aperture / depth of field whist filming. Another feature is the visibility of the aperture and focus scale on the side of the lens.
Initially available in Canon and Nikon mounts. Due for release August / September 2012. Expected street prices will be:
14mm T3.1 ED AS UMC - £329.99 / Euros 409.99, 24mm T1.5 ED AS UMC - £529.99 / Euros 649.99, 35mm T1.5 ED AS UMC - £419.99 / Euros 519.99
June 11th 2012 - Samyang Optics announce the latest addition to the popular range of manual focus lenses, the 8mm 1:2.8 UMC Fish-eye lens designed specifically for Sony NEX and Samsung NX cameras.
Complimenting the existing fisheye lenses available in other mounts, the Samyang 8mm 1:2.8 UMC Fisheye is currently the smallest and the brightest Fisheye lens, available in Sony NEX and Samsung NX mounts. It perfectly combines superior optics and a fast aperture within an exceptionally compact size.
Its sophisticated optical construction relies on a system of 10 lenses arranged in 8 groups. They include one aspherical (AS) lens and two lenses made of extra low dispersion glass (ED). These provide outstanding sharpness for the entire field of view and a maximum aperture of f/2.8. The lens surfaces are covered with multi-layered UMC anti-reflective coatings enhancing light transmission and maximising contrast.
Samyang 8mm 1:2.8 UMC Fish-eye is a manual lens that will be marketed with Sony E (NEX) and Samsung NX mounts. In both cases its maximum angle of view will amount to 180 degrees, with a minimum focusing distance of 0.3 metres.
Due for release early July 2012. Expected street price will be £279.99 / Euros 349.99.
